Bottle Washed Ashore on Belize Beach
A fragile glass bottle has somehow remained unbroken even though it had been in the ocean long enough for barnacles to firmly attach themselves. Those who collect bottles can tell that this one is old, blown glass, slightly misshapen, likely a wine bottle from the early 1700’s. Probably a sea-weary midshipman from a British warship of the days of sail, tossed it overboard and fell into a drunken slumber. The bottle lay on the ocean floor until hurricane after hurricane propelled it up and out of the drink and onto a satin shoreline surface.
